1. Commonly used corrugated paper testing equipment and test methods for paper
In order to standardize the various conditions that affect paper performance as much as possible, it is necessary to reasonably and effectively control the various conditions. Taking the UK as an example, the test is usually carried out indoors at a relative humidity of 50% and a temperature of 23 °C. The sample should be properly placed within 24 hours before the test .
( 1 ) Corrugated paper compression strength test (cct)
This method is specifically used to measure corrugated paper. As in the corrugated medium paper flat compression strength test (CMT ), the paper passes through the cold press corrugated medium paper forming machine to become the same core paper as on the corrugated line. As in the RCT test procedure mentioned above , the formed core paper is also subjected to pressure, and its compression resistance can be calculated at the moment of being crushed ;

( 2 ) Burst strength test ( also applicable to corrugated cardboard )
The commonly used method is the Mullen test , in which a stretched hydraulic elastic circular aperture is provided, on top of which a similar paper or cardboard disc sample is placed, and the disc sample is clamped just above the aperture. The liquid pressure when the sample ruptures will be recorded, which is the so-called Mullen test value of the sample , usually in units of 'kJ / m2' ;

2. Commonly used paperboard equipment and test methods for paperboard
( 1 ) Edge compression test (ECT)
This test is very important. It shows the stacking strength of the cartons made of this type of paperboard. The corrugations on the upright carton faces are also upright. The ECT value is the pressure value measured when the cardboard is crushed.

( 2 ) Flat compression test (FCT)
During the test, the cut circular cardboard sample is placed under pressure. As with the CMT test, two types of crushing may occur - if they do not occur, it is most likely due to the tilt of the flute.

( 3 ) Adhesion strength test (PAT)
This test has a long history and is used to test the bonding strength of corrugated core paper and face paper. The commonly used tool is a special "comb" with a protruding needle twice the length of the board width and a diameter that can be placed between the flutes of the board being tested. Insert a "comb" from each side of the rectangular board sample, and then apply pressure to the two "combs" to separate them, that is, apply force to the upper and lower papers to try to separate the face paper and core paper. The pressure value when the corrugated core paper and face paper are torn apart is the PAT value of the board being tested. The bonding strength of each face paper can also be measured separately, depending on which side of the face paper the protruding needle is inserted.
Recommended: RS-8419 Compression Tester + PAT Test Sampler
After the corrugated core paper and the face paper are torn apart, it is necessary to check whether the bonding failure is caused by the test or there is a problem with the bonding strength between the layers of paper. Generally, the latter is more likely.
